Enhance your hearing experience with our specialised Speech-in-Noise and Audible Contrast Threshold assessments.
SIN & ACT
Hearing in noisy environments is a common challenge, even for individuals with normal hearing. Traditional hearing tests may not fully capture this difficulty. At AudioCare, we offer specialised assessments: Speech-in-Noise (QuickSIN) testing and the Audible Contrast Threshold (ACT™) test to evaluate your ability to understand speech amidst background noise.
importance
Understanding speech in noisy environments is crucial for effective communication in daily life. Difficulties in such settings can lead to social withdrawal and decreased quality of life. By assessing your speech-in-noise abilities, we can identify specific challenges and tailor interventions to enhance your hearing experience. The ACT™ test, in particular, offers a quick and reliable method to assess your real-life speech-in-noise ability. It is language-independent and can be performed on anyone, regardless of language background and ability.
quality
Speech-in-Noise (QuickSIN) Testing: This assessment measures how well you can comprehend speech in environments with varying levels of background noise. It provides insights into your real-world hearing capabilities, beyond what standard audiometry reveals. Audible Contrast Threshold (ACT™) Test: ACT™ is a language-independent test that evaluates your sensitivity to changes in sound patterns, known as spectro-temporal modulation. This test predicts your ability to understand speech in noisy settings and guides the optimisation of hearing aid features.

Initial Consultation
At first, an anamnesis is carried out by a health professional with the patient, which is intended to be an initial point in the diagnosis.
Diagnosis
Primary and complementary tests are carried out to diagnose the type of hearing loss that will explain why it is difficult to hear.
Recommendation
According to the results of these tests, if hearing loss is proven, a hearing aid will be recommended, which may vary in type and model.

Professional Advice
Whether you’re exploring our bespoke services, our approach, or how we can elevate your hearing experience, here are answers to the questions we’re asked most often.
These assessments evaluate your ability to understand speech in noisy environments, providing insights into your real-world hearing capabilities and guiding effective interventions.
During SIN testing, you’ll listen to sentences or words presented with background noise and repeat what you hear. The ACT™ test involves listening to modulated noise signals to determine how much contrast you need to hear differences between sounds.
While SIN tests may use language-specific materials, the ACT™ test is language-independent, making it suitable for individuals regardless of their language background.
The ACT™ test typically takes between two to three minutes to complete, while SIN testing duration may vary depending on the specific protocol used.
Our audiologists will discuss your results in detail, explaining any identified hearing issues and recommending suitable interventions, which may include hearing aids, therapy, or preventive measures. We ensure you have a clear understanding of your hearing health and the next steps.
Stay informed with the latest insights and innovations in hearing care, helping you enjoy life fully and with clarity in an ever-evolving world.
